Be Vigilant

1 Peter 5:6-9  Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

God tells us that we are to be humble. This means we do not take credit for God’s work. We are to always praise him and let people know when God takes care of us. He is to receive all the glory and honor. Without him, we are nothing. He deserves to be praised.

God also tells us to cast all our care on him. Depend on God totally to take care of you. God does care for you and cares what happens to you. He will take care of you.

He also warns us to be on guard against our enemies. Our main enemy is the devil. He searches the earth constantly for people who are in a weakened state (emotionally, physically, mentally, or any other area where he can form an attack). Satan wants to destroy us and the world. It is up to us to be vigilant (be on guard). We are to pray for others as well as our selves.

God reminds us that we are not alone in our afflictions. Other people are going through the same things we are, so we are not to think that it is just us. What we have to do is stay on guard not only for ourselves, but also for our loved ones and friends. Let’s stand in the gap for those who are weak and pray that others will do the same for us.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Until next time,
