Philippians 1:3-6 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

These were Paul's words to the Christians of Philippi. He was accompanied by Timothy (Philippians 1:1). I could not have expressed my feelings for my readers any better than these verses. As you read, think of this as me speaking directly to you, dear reader. I pray that these words will bring you comfort through times of trouble.

I like to especially remember verse 6, "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." Jesus Christ is able to keep you. God gave you to him and he took that gift seriously. He protects us with his very life. After all, he gave his life for us on the cross.

Until next time,

Romans 7:15-17

For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

I always like it whenever I find places in the Bible that those people had the same problems that I do. It means they were human just like we are. They had the same battles, the same shortcomings, as the rest of us. Maybe it shouldn't, but it gives me a little peace about myself.

I am always doing things that I really never meant to do - I go against my own spiritual warnings and do it anyway. I fight against my flesh everyday, every hour, every minute. Sometimes I get tired of fighting against myself and just give in. Not that I want to sin, it's just that I sometimes get tired and give in.

That's what Paul was telling us in these verses - that he was battling constantly with himself. He never meant to sin, but he was always doing things he knew were not right. He was human - just like us. He was a great preacher and teacher, but he was also human and made mistakes.

I thank God for putting that in His word, the Bible, so that I could find it, read it, and learn from it. He is telling me that even though there will be times when my flesh will win battles over my spirit, I am still His child. I am not to give up and quit trying - I am to continue forward and forgive myself. I am to ask God to forgive me and move on. I am to continue to battle and fight with myself while stepping on forward toward God and the salvation of Jesus Christ.

If you are going through the same thing, don't give up. I know you get tired and sometimes wonder why you should keep trying. You have to continue on your path to salvation - keep stepping forward toward the kingdom of God. God knows you will fail at times - forgive yourself, pray for God to forgive you (confess your sin to God), then pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start again moving toward Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 1:21-24

"Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth. Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand."

Paul established to the church at Corinth that he and the other apostles were anointed by Christ. They were given the "earnest of the Spirit." When an earnest is paid - it is a down-payment to keep something. For instance, if you want to buy a house you are required to put down earnest money to hold the home until the specifics of the deal can be settled.

God gave Paul and the apostles (and us) an earnest (down-payment) of the Holy Spirit. It was given so that He could hold onto those souls while He establishes the final details of the deal (salvation) between them. God gives all Christians (those who accept Him) this same earnest of the Holy Spirit.

Definition of earnest: showing good will, deep sincerity or seriousness. God is serious about salvation and about providing us with what we need to be God's helpers.

Paul further states that they (the apostles) did not have the rule over the faith of the others. He was establishing that they did not hold themselves up higher or better than any other in the church.

We as Christians are all on the same level. It is true that each person has a different measure of faith, but we are all on the same level as far as our Christian lives. We are all sinners saved by the grace God and the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are helpers - put here to help each other.

That is a good definition of Lords Helpers. We try to help others by posting Bible studies, prayer requests, and other writings to help others. That is our ministry to help God bring others to Jesus Christ. We are God's helpers.

I thank God that we have been allowed this outlet of the Internet to spread the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. I also thank Him for the earnest of His Spirit.
